Orders – Criteria, Policies

Core & Non-Core Subjects & Sample Items

 

For the purposes of fulfilling #2 of the IF Spending Policy, “Once 50% of the semester funds have been spent on materials and services for GVCS non-core subjects, the EF may, at his/her discretion, provide reasonable, educationally appropriate justification for allowance of spending more than 50% of the funds on non-core subjects…” the following subjects are considered core:

 

  • English
  • Reading/Language Arts
  • History
  • Economics
  • Civics and Government
  • Math
  • Science
  • Foreign Languages
  • Arts (Including visual & performing arts, as aligned with the state standards, e.g. dance, theatre, music, painting, drawing, cartooning, manga, photography, ceramics, etc. Does not include crafts.)
  • Geography
  • Technology

 

For these purposes, the following subjects are considered non-core:

  • Physical Education
  • Life Skills Electives
  • Special Interests Electives that do not fall under the visual and performing arts, language other than English, nor one of the other core subjects

General School Supplies are also considered non-core.
