GVCS Leadership & Support Staff
Terri Schiavone, Executive Director
Terri started out her career in education at the age of 20 when she drove solo from New York to California to teach middle school in the Los Angeles area. Nine years later, she relocated to Northern California and started a tutoring business. Shortly thereafter, she was offered and accepted a teaching position with a non classroom-based charter school. When she moved back to Southern California 11 years later, a group of parents asked her if she would open up a non classroom-based charter school for their children. Twenty years later, she has successfully lead Golden Valley Charter School. Golden Valley Charter School was the first charter to be authorized in Ventura County, despite the opposition of the County Office of Education at that time. Today, the Ventura County Office of Education is proud of the school’s academic achievement, strong fiscal management, and a reputation for serving students in a manner which provides an optimal educational opportunity for each student. She’s known amongst her peers to be a person of high standards, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
Terri loves outrigger paddling, snorkeling, fishing, exploring the caves and beaches of the Napali coast, swimming with turtles, dolphins, and whales, and anything else that keeps her either in or on top of the ocean.
Tricia Purcell, Director of Education
Tricia has been with Golden Valley Charter School for the past 10 years. She began her teaching career in a middle school classroom teaching math and science. She then served as a New Teacher Coordinator and as a Math Content Specialist.
She feels fortunate to call Golden Valley her home. She enjoys supporting our homeschool families and helping our students meet their unique and individual goals in education.
Tricia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University and her Masters in Teaching and Learning from the University of California Santa Barbara. Tricia enjoys spending her free time reading, gardening, cooking, and baking.
